What is Le Bon Magot?

Le Bon Magot® is a woman-founded business, producing caponata, chutney, conserve, marmalata, preserves, tapenade and dressing, all inspired by the owner’s family heritage and international experience. All Le Bon Magot products are crafted from Heritage Recipes using High-Quality Seasonal Produce, Custom-Blended Aromatics combined with Natural Preserving Techniques. Expect to taste fresh, locally sourced produce and sweet, sun-dried fruit blended with the best quality oils, vinegars and spices sourced through specialist traders and ateliers from around the world. What does Le Bon Magot mean?

The etymology of the word “magot” is somewhat curious. We chose this name precisely because of its antiquated origins and multiple meanings. For us, magot (mă-gō′) is "the hidden treasure". This preferred interpretation aptly fits our curated creations – rich colored compotes that sparkle like jewels, subtly spiced for a clean taste.

What makes Le Bon Magot products different?

The condiment and preserve market is large, giving diners like you an enormous variety of products from which to choose – tried and tested brands with predictable flavors stand alongside artisan made upstarts with an array of textures, flavors and colors.

Despite the vast selection, we at Le Bon Magot® believe there are only a limited – if any – number of brands that use exceptional all-natural ingredients and ancient preservation techniques to deliver the flavors of South Asia, Middle East and Africa. Fresh produce, unique spice blends that straddle countries and continents, and a rich pedigree of recipes has enabled us to reap accolades from industry professionals and foodies alike, who are searching for shelf-stable products that can be used in multi-various ways. The proof is in the preserve – so try us!

our products

Are your products organic, local, or fair trade?

Le Bon Magot® is small but we take our responsibility in the global supply chain seriously. We recognize that our choices and standards, as part of a broader community of artisan producers, can influence the way that food is grown, processed, marketed and regulated around the world. Since our kitchen is actively making our creations all year around to ensure that you get the freshest products possible, we move around the country during the year as we source from different growing areas.

Whenever possible, however, we source our ingredients from local farms in the New Jersey-New York-Pennsylvania area, spice traders and wineries. Also, whenever possible we source our spices from fair trade or Certified B Corporations. For example, our vanilla is sourced from Lafaza, a company dedicated to sourcing Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans directly from Malagasy farmers, who only use organic and sustainable agricultural practices. The vanilla is organic, non-GMO and contains no chemical additives. We use a double-fold extract made from Grade A-1 beans that contain a moisture content ranging from 30-35%. These are the highest grade vanilla beans offered in the industry. For more information about our featured suppliers, please click here.

From where do you source your ingredients?

We source our ingredients from a variety of trusted suppliers including verjus from the Wölffer Estate Vineyards, Sagaponack, New York, saffron from Rumi Spice and nuanced spice blends from the Master Spice Blender himself, of Chef Lior Lev Sercarz of La Boîte-New York. Are the products shelf-stable?

In addition to the distinctive look and taste of the products, a notable feature of our condiments is an Enduring Shelf-Life, which has been achieved through classical, proven cooking and preserving techniques (e.g. pickling, temperature control, oil, sugar). Our products can be stored at room temperature away from sunlight. Once opened, some may need refrigeration.

What sizes do you offer?

We sell jars of net weight 2oz., 8oz. and 32oz. jars. The 32oz. size is available to foodservice only.
